Holds a PhD in Biotechnology from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) (2009), Master in Biochemical Engineering (IST) (2001) after completing the Biochemistry degree in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (1997). Since 2006 has participated in the Master in Applied Microbiology of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon on processes of production and purification of recombinant enzymes in bioreactor. Over the years he has participated in different research projects, many of them associated with the purification of enzymes for food application. In 2006 he co-founded the biotechnology company Fytozimus Biotech, Lda in which he developed a product that was recognized and licensed by the FDA for commercialization in the United States of America and Canada. Between 2011 and 2012 he participated in a research project in association with the company ECBio, SA for the purification of bioactive compounds with anti-tumor activity, being registered a patent (WO 2009/040778 A2, PT nº 103839). In 2012-13 participated actively in different lines of research in the Laboratory of Biomedical Engineering of the Portuguese Catholic University, from which several articles related to the analysis and monitoring of fermentations using NIR and MIR spectroscopy were published. Since 2013, is a lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering of the Lusófona University of Humanities and Technologies, teaching different courses in the field of Biotechnology Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, which is currently its Coordinator. Actually is a Collaborative Researcher at GREEN-IT (ITQB-UNL).o
