Márcia Lima completed the Integrated Master of Civil Engineering in 2011, with a final score of 16 points. Also in 2011, he was awarded an individual doctoral scholarship by the Foundation for Science and Technology, which started in 2012. Between 2012 and 2015 she developed his doctoral work (at the University of Aveiro and the University of Lund, Sweden). Since 2016 she has started her duties at ANQIP, National Association for the Quality of Building Facilities, as a technical auditor and researcher. Between January and July 2018, she worked as a researcher in the MarRisk project at the University of Aveiro, and in May 2018 defended the PhD Thesis.

She is currently part of the R5e Consulting Engineers team, as a Civil Engineer (specializing in Hydraulics and Coastal Engineering) and is a Professor at Lusófona University post-employment. He has been a member of the Engineer Council (Effective Member No. 68485) since 2012 and has had a CCP as a trainer, also since 2012. He is a member of the RISCO Research Unit (Aveiro Research Center of RIsks and Sustainability in Construction).

During her master’s and PhD, both in the area of Coastal and Port Engineering, Márcia Lima developed programs for numerical modeling of coastal structures, namely, pre-sizing, shoreline evolution and cost-benefit analysis in Portuguese. C # programming.

In 1990, I was awarded a PhD with a thesis on “Soil, Water and Environmental Sciences” by the University of Arizona (USA). I have been involved throughout my career in several research projects, teaching and various dissemination activities. I am currently a Senior Research at OMNIDEA Aerospace Technology and Energy Systems, an innovative SME performing R&D in pioneering energy concepts and processes, located at the University Nova of Lisbon. I am also a Professor at the University Lusophone of Humanities and Technologies of Lisbon.

I had worked for 12 years as a Research Scientist in Energy and Environment at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) at the Technical University of Lisbon. I was involved in more than 30 R&D projects related to energy, environment and climate change, new and renewable energies in islands and remote regions, mostly funded by the European Commission and related institutions. From my research work, I have published or participated in the publication of more than 50 scientific articles in international and Portuguese scientific journals and conferences.

I have relevant professional experience as consultant for environment for the United Nation Development Program, United Nations Commission for Science and Technology for Development, World Meteorological Organization and the World Bank. I have held top positions at the Ministry Departments in Cape Verde, where I was born. Among these, I was Director of the General Directorate of Higher Education and Science at the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Sports from April 1997 to June 1998; Chairman, National Commission for the Installation of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, from July 1997 to June 1998.

Kalina Samardjieva holds a PhD in Environmental Science and Technology from the Faculty of Science of the University of Porto (FCUP) and a Master in Ecologia da Paisagem e Conservação da Natureza, also from FCUP. Since graduating in Environmental Sciences, her research interests have been focused in the area of Environmental Remediation.Currently she is an Assistant Professor at the Lusófona University of Porto where she teaches several subjects in the undergraduate courses of Environmental Engineering, Civil Protection Engineering and Civil Engineering.
